Business analysts in Chicago

Most businesses that call an analyst already know something is wrong. They just cannot say precisely what, or what it is costing them. That is the work: making it precise enough to act on.

What the work involves

  • Map the business as it actually runs today, not as the org chart says it runs
  • Quantify what each bottleneck costs per month, so priorities argue themselves
  • Model the alternatives: automate, restructure, outsource, or leave alone
  • Produce a written proposal with numbers, sequence and risks, then a contract

When businesses get in touch

  • Revenue is up but profit is flat, and nobody can say exactly why
  • Every process depends on one person who cannot take a holiday
  • You are quoting from instinct because you do not know your true cost per unit
  • A tool was bought to fix it and the problem simply moved somewhere else

Questions we get asked

What does a business analyst actually deliver?

A written proposal: what is happening now, what each problem costs, the options with numbers against them, and a recommended sequence. Not a slide deck of observations. Something you can act on or hand to a board.

How long does an engagement take?

The first conversation is free and usually enough to tell whether there is a real problem worth paying to solve. A full review is typically a few weeks depending on how many parts of the business are in scope.

Do I need to know what is wrong before I get in touch?

No. "Profit is thinner than it should be" is a perfectly good starting point. Working out what is actually behind that is the job.
